The band was originally the 10th South Shields Boys' Brigade Band which was all boys, this changed in early 1991. They changed the format to include girls in the band and became, The 10th South Shields Boys' Brigade & Gospel Temperance Youth Band. This name was used because they use the facilities at the Gospel Temperance Church in Laygate, South Shields.
The band were going to DENMARK on a youth exchange visit and the Danish FDF & FPF, which are the equivalent to our boys & girls brigades, are run as one joint organisation.
In July of 1991 the 10th S/S Boys' Brigade & Gospel Temperance Youth Band left for a two week stay in Denmark. The first week was to be at a National Camp in Jutland with 15,000 other children which included the boys & girls of the LIND TAMBOURKORPS who had been to England the year before, and that was who they would spend the second week with as guests in their homes. The trip was so successful that the then band leader Mrs Dorothy Golightly promptly set about plans to reciprocate their hospitality and invite the Danish children to England in 1993
